Recipe Notes
I was a little nervous about this flavor. Berries can be tricky to perfect, and my first berry flavor sold so poorly that I didn’t make another for over ten years. But I grew up hearing stories about how my mother and auntie de-stemmed and boxed up strawberries for my great-grandfather’s produce business at the old Downtown LA market, so I had to make something special to celebrate that! I decided on pairing our local strawberries with real sakura blossoms, a touch of rose, and a hint of cardamom. The end result is warm and jammy in a way that feels completely nostalgic, so I’m glad I didn’t give up on berries!
